I’m not a woo woo person and to be honest that’s exactly what I’d call ‘positivity and gratitude’. Especially if you feel it will change your life. Because it won’t – well, not on its own.

We all know change comes about by a change in mindset and action – team action with your positivity and gratitude (aka mindset) and yes it could very well change your life.

Like many things there are extremes.

Positivity

Positivity can begin with a smile, looking on the bright side of ‘things’ – using it for yourself. But the other extreme is taking that positivity and showering others – all in a good cause of course – but beware there will be people who do not need nor want it. Me being one! I’m a happy person, prefer to smile than to cry and be miserable – doesn’t mean I go out of my way to find unhappy people and try to change them. It can only be done by the individual themselves so wait for the invite for help or the question of how you do it. Small steps.

My husband is very negative and sometimes angry – he accepts he is like that, I’m not going to change him. But I do stop him and ask him to recognise it, encourage him not to shout – even our dog; Teddy, skulks into his crate when he shouts but it’s him. I can only be myself, be positive and sunny and perhaps do something else when he’s playing his Playstation and getting mad that his ‘man’ doesn’t do what he wants it to!

I love this blog – Positivity Blog – about being happy and positivity. Daily Happiness: 13 Simple Ways to Find it in Your Life is particularly good in my mind with a couple of quotes that I love:

“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”
Marcus Aurelius Antoninus

“Since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give.”
Eleanor Roosevelt

Gratitude

Again, this has extremes – some people rise each day and say their ’10 Gratitudes’ or end their day being grateful for things that have happened or people around them. There is then those that write a Gratitude Journal and found it extremely fulfilling. Have a listen to this Podcast by Richard Tubb as he speaks with Geoff Nicholson about Journaling.

Expressing thanks to people and things that have happened is quite therapeutic to be honest – it makes me smile and remember the good from the day; so I can see/feel the benefits and we all know about building habits (it takes 30 days) but I’m weak – there I’ve said it! Life takes over. #sorrynotsorry

But in my mind – every little helps. Small steps – there I’ve said it again. It’s a bit like my habit of not eating cake – I tried and then it was my birthday #fail.
