Are you focusing on the right things in your business? It’s easy to answer yes, but in reality, that isn’t always the case. It can be all too easy to get inundated with being busy and working in your business, not on it. But as the business owner, you need to ensure your time, energy and money are going on the right things.

It can be difficult to step away from doing it all alone and taking the time to grow a team or scale your business, but if you want real success, it’s something you need to do. Because if you’re not focusing on the right things in your business, you’re doing yourself and your business a disservice – and you’re not living up to your full potential.

Focus on being the CEO of your business – not an employee

It’s down to you to steer your business, and you can’t do that if you’re constantly working in it. Give yourself permission to step back from the day-to-day running of your business and get on with doing those things that drive it forward. Goal planning, analytics, team growth, and outsourcing are essential elements you need to focus on.

Your business needs you to steer it in the right direction. But you need to check – Are you holding your business back from the growth you want? Do you know your limitations? Are you planning the route for your business? Because these are just some of the ways you can be holding your business back and stopping yourself from being the CEO it needs.

Are you focusing on growing your team?

As a business owner, you may be used to doing everything yourself. But if you want to be the CEO your business needs, you can’t do it all and neither should you. Your focus has to be on growing a team. If you’re looking to upscale your business, you need the right people on board. You need the time and space to find them and train them if you want your business to flourish.

Know what you need to do to scale your business

If you want to scale your business, you need to be able to see where you want to be, not where you’re currently at. You need to set the scene, so you can implement the right tools, people and financial resources, to reach that vision.

Can your systems and processes support your business scaling to the level you want? Do you know what is working and where you need to invest, to grow further? Do you have the right team in place and the right skills? And are you evaluating every area of your business so that you can minimise the risks?

Customer journey and overall experience is everything

Your customers are one area that you must always be focused on. Make your customers happy, and you’ll have great testimonials, rave reviews and an army of fans. Are you doing what you need to improve client retention and improve the levels of service your customers receive? Do you have Customer loyalty reward options for small business owners? Are you constantly asking for feedback, sending out surveys and testing all touchpoints to ensure you’re providing the best possible customer experience?

You’re in business to make money – are you focusing on that?

Ultimately, you’re in business to make money, and you need sales. Do you know what products and/or services bring in the money? You’re in business to ultimately be a financial success, so you need to focus on doing more of those things that actually bring in the money. Focus needs to be given to your sales and product funnels, as well as your marketing ones. If you’re not testing and analysing them, you can’t hope to improve the average customer spend, product preferences, or retention rates.

It isn’t always easy to take time to step out of your business and spend time working on it. But you need to ensure you’re focusing on the right things if you want to achieve those higher levels of success. By focusing on the areas above, you’ll be doing all you can to become the CEO your business needs and helping it and you, achieve full potential.
